ANY one with Crysis and a overclocked WOlfdale?

Crysis is a GPU limited game, CPU clock speed hardly effects it.

Infact my Crysis benchies didn't change in the slightest when going from 3Ghz Quad to 3.6Ghz quad.

Sorry to dissapoint you but Crysis is GPU limited.
I did run the Crysis bench again after swapping out my e6750 for the e8500
but there was no significant increase i'm afraid.

OK i have re run the Crysis bench at 4400mhz on the 8500 and there is a bit of a gain over the old e6750.
e6750 3500mhz 61.5 fps
e8500 4400mhz 65.125 fps.

So it's not completely GPU limited just mostly GPU limited :)

I wish overclocking my cpu helped in Crysis :p then i would push it a lot more hehe

i'm sure you lot with c2d's will get a higher score than me with my 4200x2, but in crysis there's a point where it hardly makes a difference.

Mate, I went from an x2 3800 @2.7 to an [email protected] and gained 10fps in Crysis. I'm well pleased with that much of a gain but I'm pretty sure that it's because the old x2 was a bottle neck.

The point where it doesn't make much difference I reckon is around 3.4ghz for a dual core and 3ghz for a quad, assuming that you have an 8800 or 3870 series gpu that is.

I am pretty sure the better the cpu the higher the frames.

Just look at the crysis bench thread. the ones with the best scores all have E6600 @ 3.6GHz and above.

I sort of feel like it's important to have hardware that is well balanced.

Your cpu needs to be able to complement your gpu and vice versa. Crysis does seem to benefit more from gpu power that's for sure.

CPU only makes a difference to the point where its not bottlenecking the GPU.. That depends on the GPU(s).. The setup I built for my brother has 3870's in crossfire and a Q6600, makes bugger all difference to the FPS once the CPU is going 3.2ghz+
