Long story short:
I have a friend who is 55yrs old who has bought a laptop but knows absolutely nowt ie a complete technophobe; questions like "what's the difference between the right button and the left button on the mouse" or "I'm pressing the shift key with the arrows on but nothing is happening" .... when repeatedly hitting the arrow keys, will give you an idea of what I mean.
All the stuff that we take for granted, he has to learn; never mind the intricacies of spreadsheets etc.
I seem to have been adopted as his help line but am finding it very difficult on the end of the phone when he actually has no idea so ....... are there any sites that cover the absolute basics? I keep telling him to get/read some books but he still keeps ringing to ask the most basic questions.
When he first got it I met him and showed him how to switch on, open and resize windows etc but after an hour I could see that his eyes were glazing over so we stopped; I've now convinced him that it is better to shut down using the appropriate buttons rather than the power button alone so he is moving along slowly.
I can't really tell him to 'go away' as we've been friends for a long time and I'd like to help if possible but it would be nice if someone could point me in the direction of a complete begnners guide online.
