Evening all.
I'm starting to look into contributing towards OpenSource projects, specifically Debian packages seeing as that's the distro I use most commonly.
Does anyone on here contribute to any projects? And if so, any pointers for the fledgling volunteer?
I'm going to be following the advice over at debian.org and subscribing to some mailing lists, and dipping my toe in so to speak. But what's involved when it actually comes to contributing, I take it a CVS system is used? Or is it more: alter source code, compile, test, post bug fix to mailing list?
Primarily I want this to be an exercise to sharpen my programming skills (currently don't know a jot of C, have written varying amounts of Java, C Sharp (!), Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby)... and I've quickly become a jack of all trades and a master of none when it comes to programming. It'd also be good to 'give something back' whilst furthering my own knowledge.
Thanks
