Hi as above i was looking at upgrading my HTPC which as well as the media functions plays low res games.

So came on to see if anything had been said of what you think it might be like and see that mentions of it are thin.

Any opinions or should iwait a couple of more weeks before deciding

Trinity is being released on the 15th of May AFAIK.

From what I have gathered the CPU will be faster, but the major improvement will be with the GPU. Hopefully by then AMD will have drivers for VCE which is found in the HD7000 series and the Trinity IGP.

The IGP in the top end A10 CPUs has 384 VLIW4 shaders and is called the HD7660G. Considering that the HD7660 is a rebadged HD6670,this would indicate it probably has better performance than an HD5670 or HD6570 graphics card.

The CPU section is meant to run at around 4GHZ - the CPU performance will probably be around the level of an 125W FX4170 AFAIK(maybe slightly less). Some BOINC results indicated, that despite losing the L3 cache, FPU performance is a tad better in single thread operations than an FX8150 at the same clockspeed and integer performance was around 10% better.

The A10-5800K has a 100W TDP and there is also the 65W TDP A10-5700K:
