Any PC gamers using HDTV's?

Not that ive had much time lately but im still blown away with the Panasonic AE2000 1080p projector. G.R.I.D on the PC in 1080p with all effects maxed with AA etc just makes the console versions look very poor.Like many games the bigger the screen the more impressive it can look and in this respect its an excellent device and also handles loads of resolutions like 1680x1050 or of course 720p to many older VGA settings. Im sure other projector users enjoy PC gaming too. At least on a 1080p projector you CAN get the true benifits with PC and not this half assed upscaled nonsense on X360 or PS3 titles.

Guys even if you have a 720p display you should still if its fairly recent be able to successfully run a 1920x1080 (1080p) desktop or game resolution. This is no different to viewing a 1080 video source. Some displays will handle this better than others but is worth a try.

1920x1080 on my 37" here, I stopped using it for PC games though as I mainly play WoW now and I'm more used to that on the smaller screen.

your doing something wrong there, it should do 1360x768 progressive at the very least!

that res wasn't supported through vga on the 169 drivers (vga is per pixel rather than scaled so it would be sharper.) At that time 1280x720p and 1280x768i looked better and had more image options via DVI-HDMI than vga.

Since the new 175 drivers support 1360x768 it might look better via vga, however i use that port for my 360 which i use more and the tv has only one vga port. Component on the 50" samsungs is crap which is why i just kept it like this.

i had that support through vga on my 8800gtx. infact the only thing i couldnt get working was 1080p over vga because 1080p support was screwed up and required custom timing, something which has only just been made available in vista as you said. in xp i could do that fine, too. i have also had 1360x768 available over dvi>hdmi from the start.

Nvidia has no issues with the 1366x768 at correct HZ and P.

That was using a DVI to HDMI lead and Vista 64Ult.

funny because i go into nvidia control panel with my 8800gtx and 1360x768 and other odd resolutions are only available via scaling through 1080i 30hz, and 1366x768 isn't available at all through DVI. Perhaps this is because it is autodetecting what resolutions it thinks my tv supports.

I touched nothing (newish drivers) and it already has a setting checked for "Treat as HD-TV"

It set it all for me on the Sammy 32" Series 4 with DVI to HDMI.

Used to game on my Hyundai q321 at 1360x768, 1:1 mapping over vga and was very impressive and smooth. Worked out the box on my ati x800xt, Shame my parents stole it :(

I have a 22inch monitor and a 40inch sammy connected to my pc.
I use the sammy for gaming and the monitor for the internet.
Games are great on a big screen with a 360 wireless gamepad or a g25 wheel.
I would not go back to playing games on a monitor again.

Same here been doing this for over 18 months now and could never go back to my 24" TFT for gaming although I do keep it for the web & some RTS games like C&C otherwise my 40" Sammy is unbeatable via DVI to HDMI 1:1.

Just purchased myself a 42" LG HDTV and fired up Company Of Heroes on it last night, 1920x1080 looks absolutely superb - granted I'm only sat a few feet away, and when I move it'll be a bit further away, but it's much better than the old 17" monitor I was using, and way better than the 22" monitor I borrowed for a couple of weeks!

how do you guys transfer a game from one display to another? I've got my HDTV setup but my games all run on my monitor and i cant move them over to my TV

Most games use DirectX - this means they display on your primary (1st) monitor only. You can switch this over in Control Panel -> Display.

if you want to run pc - it is supported universally as a resolution so no scaling would be needed = sharper clearer picture @ 60hz.

Dunno if I would go so far as to say universally supported, some badly coded games (especially older ones) have hardcoded resolutions not at that aspect ratio.

So basically I'm goign to have to set the TV as primary display before playing a game, then start the game when ready. Is this the case for movies as well or just games?

for fixs to widescreen look here

a hdtv 1366 x768 (1080i)screen normal will give you a res of 1360 x768 as the res needs to be divided by 8 (i think)but you can get some screens to do 1366 with certain programs, i gave up with 1366 with nvidia as when i normally updated the drivers i would lose the 1366 x 768 half the time and last time i tried i got panning.
A lot tv's over hdmi have limited res( that might have changed now when i got my tv a lot had limited edid) and with mine i cannot adjust the screen when i got hdmi selected but can resize with conponent and vga.

I might try this with my Sony Bravia 32", it's 100hz and i haven't noticed any ghosting at all so should look pretty good with the PC. Mainly want to do this for games like GTA4 when its on PC and racing games.

Think i'll stick to my CRT for CSS and other FPS games though.
