people who are going to have a go just leave now :)

ive been seriously thinking about rebuying a 360, probably the core , mainly because im moving away and wont have the brothers ps3 anymore ( cant afford to buy my own tbh). id just keep playing on the ps2 but i really fancy getting skate and whatever else might be fun offline

however the noise REALLY got to me when i owned one before

you lot seem to know about plans to change the cooling and plans for cooler cpus etc

so i was wondering if theres any "news" of potentially quieter versions (since i dont read eggsbox news)

if not is there anyways to make it quieter pretty for reasonable costs ?

The forum is not to be used as a hub for swapping dodgey information. If it's not allowed here, don't ask for it.

cheers

I've never really noticed the noise from any of my 360's to be honest :/

I mean i know its not quiet but its not like i cant hear anything but the console, just a slight "hmm"

The BenQ drives where always meant to be the Holy Grail as fas as quiet drives where concerned, but tbh at the moment it is still very hit and miss what console you get. I got an exchange a month ago and the manufacture date was Novermber last year. It just all depends on the stock.

If McManicMan says there is a way to make it very quiet i 100% believe him as he knows his stuff about that, but is it worth ruining your warranty for?

I have considered getting some sound deadening sponge or Dynamat to place between the console and shelf to see if it helps any.

Nobody will have a go, it's not a PS3 thread! As far as noise goes I (and most other people) think the Drive noise is horrendous (Jihad must have no ears) but that would be personal opinion. My Sam/Hit is like a jet fighter taking off. Have heard a BenQ in action and it is quite bit better, the rear fans arn't really bad at all although some do have a quite a shrill 'whine' (not speed or airflow noise) As far as making a Sam/Hit quiet, there is but do you want to buy a new console and rip it apart?

My first xbox was ok, the new one I have, due to the dvd drive packing in, is extremly noisy im tempted to take it back.

personally my 360 is pretty quiet, slightly louder than my pc (which is near silent) sure if you're not doing anything its audible but as soon as you stick a game or dvd on you can't hear it. All this moaning about console noise seems a little odd to me, surely whatever you're doing with it drowns out the console quite easily?

The noise is over exaggerated.

Plus most the noise is from the DVD drives and not the fans.

no its not , i owned and have borrowed one and it was ridiculously bad in my small room . so what if its from the dvd drive , its not exactly as if i can play without using the dvd drive :/

my mates says his is quiet but i go round and its the same as mine was :S . at the moment an eggsbox is the cheapest way to play the games i want to play since i wont have a decent enough net connection for online play

the ONLY thing putting me off is that hairdryer type noise

i just thought theyd of changed it by now to be fair. my xbox was never loud , ps/ps2 was never loud and ps3 isnt loud :/ the other consoles i owned never had moveable parts so obviously wherent loud either :p

It is easy to say that but not always practical. Not everyone has their own room they can go to and crank up a 5.1 surround sound system and use it.

I use my 360 in the same room as my GF watches the TV. I often run the TV on my PC and my 360 on my TV. So if i put on headphones she still has to contend with the drone. Often, if it is a racing game or something mindless, i end up playing with only one ear of the headphones on, and it is quite loud.

And again, many folk game late at night so can't turn the volume up loud, and the din does get a bit annoying.

TBH though i preffer when it is a constant din and not the speeding up and slowing down, like ninty nine nights was.

I sold my DVD player before buying my 360 because I thought it could play DVDs, unfortunately I was wrong, unless you consider turning up the speakers to max volume to drown out the xbox acceptable.

I've had two 360s and they've both been equally noisy.

I have to admit, my launch day console was extremely quiet. As far as doing whatever drowning out noise, playing Gears at volume 22 (with sub and bass up) just about drowns out my current console's dvd drive.

I really must try out friends 360's! None of any I've owned have been noisy to the point where I could hear it over normal conversation, or playing games at a normal volume level. I guess people have different standards of loud, or there genuinely are consoles that are much louder than others.
