Does a new ps3 have 1 year warranty only ? Should I just buy a second hand slim ps3 as that comes with 12 months warranty from those high st game shops ? find it hard to believe that a brand new ps3 has 1 years warranty how do they get away with that ? doesn't some euro law state it's 2 or 3 years minimum ?

I'm not a fan of second hand consoles myself. Everyone sticking their knobs in the disk drive and filling up the USB slots with cake ect (I dont know what these kids do with their consoles these days)

Anyway I think the euro law is around 6 years or there abouts. Maybe some one that knows can chime in :p

How much cheaper for a second hand?

120gb slim was £199 with a choice of game so is there any reason to buy new if you still only get 12 months or is there some extended registration type warranty on new ps3's ? almost bought one today then I remembered I have to wait for the hdmi to dvi cable to come in the post lol I went in that computer shop begins with an M and the hdmi to dvi cables were £39-99 lmao paid £2 for mine on an auction site.

But it comes with the exact same warranty ? 12 months

Well in that case you should go for it. I just think a second hand console would be more likely to develop a fault outside of the warranty time scale, due to knobs and cakes as highlighted in my first post.

Never thought of that you are right there god knows how abused it could have been i shall get a new one cheers

So basically, when buying a second hand console you must insist on inspecting the console thoroughly for signs of previous knob or cake incidents?

Interesting. :p

PS. Try the rainforest place that begins with an A. I got my PS3 Slim 250GB with Uncharted 2 and Fifa 10 for £250 or so, back in January.

There's no good deals around at all really was going to get the 120gb slim with 2010 fifa world cup for £255 i can always add my own hdd later on.

all depends I just picked one 250 Gig up from MM which is 3 months and looks brand new , no cake or knobs that I can see all for 200GBP cheap cheap if you ask me .

There was a thread last night saying that there is another new PS3 coming out. I'd only buy new unless it was dirt cheap, about £120 which you won't find. Try supermarkets, most are very upto date with console games and hardware and offer different bundles all the time.

Basically...yes :D

The more I read your posts the more I worry about you. :D :p

OP, as mame said, I'd probably wait a little while if you can and see what this new PS3 is about, even if it's just a hardware revision it'll be worth hanging on to as no doubt it'll bring a couple of benefits.

oh it's just manufacturing nonsense probably if I waited for every new model I'd never get a ps3.Just gonna bite the bullet and get one today hopefully a 2103b though lol

This isn't aimed at the OP but I hate how the 2 big game shops have created a culture whereby people think it's OK to pay 80%+ for something 2nd hand compared to the new price.

When Megadrives cost £189 new, someone would only pay £100 for a 2nd hand one if it came with about 15 games. For a 2nd hand megadrive with 1 or 2 games you would be looking at about £70 compared to £189 new

Yes it's ridiculous really maybe the price would be cheaper if new ps3's came with a 3 year warranty.
I think the ps3 is overpriced really but I've had an xbox 360 and barely used it as all the best games bar fifa were better on my pc always wanted a ps3 but at the time couldn't afford one.Better exclusives that don't appear on pc is my main reasoning.

They are all in cohorts anyway when you look at 6 high st retailers they all offer the same deals and exact same prices.

The PS3 is expensive yes, but I'm not sure it can be considered over-priced though considering everything it comes with as standard.

Well I wont use blu ray or wireless and I can download hd content even 1080p as i have 50mb.
But I'll save it on not paying for online or batteries or a charging unit etc etc
