Any point getting a 6400?

You have no chance of getting a 400FSB with that motherboard. You need a DS3, P5B or better.

hehe, that's a fair statement :)

Seems to be loads of 'hardcore' overclockers around atm :) altho most of them spend stupid amounts on the 'extreme edition' CPUs.
 
I dont see why you dont want to overclock? You could maybe get 2.6 with that mobo probably less which will be a quite a big improvement? If you keep everything at stock volts even with the retail cooler the temps arent going to rise much and the life of your chip is going to hardly change as keeping it at stock volts while its still cool does nothing to it :) Even upping volts sensibly doesnt reduce the life that much.

Yes if you try to overclock your E6400 to 3.3Ghz on that mobo - then it might reduce the life / upp the temps but even at 2.6Ghz its going to give you a gain of probably 20fps so I can switch on the extra AA and AF filters :)
