Any point in 4890 to 7850 upgrade on old rig?

Hi,

I pretty much haven't upgraded a thing since I built my rig in '09, and am completely out of the loop in terms of hardware developments. I was hoping I could get some advice from you knowledgeable souls.

Ultimately I'm going to build from scratch again within a couple of years, seeing as for the moment I have no problems with my system. However, I did see that the 7850 is currently on sale for £90, and was wondering whether someone who mainly plays RTS games (COH / COH2 mainly) would see much, if any, improvement by replacing a 1GB 4890 with a 2GB 7850.

My spec in my signature.

Cheers!

I would think you would see a pretty significant boost, since a 7850 is at least 2x faster than a 4890. Overclocked it reaches the same performance as a 7870 too. Make sure you overclock your CPU as well.

Great - thanks for the advice.

Time to pay a little care and attention to the system and get a bit more performance out of it before it's replaced!
