Any point in going from 2GB to 3GB?

As title, I'm likely to have a spare stick of memory on my hands in the near future and wondered if it was worth filling the third and final memory slot on my motherboard and upgrading from 2GB to 3GB?

To be honest 3GB sounds to me like an odd amount so I wondered really if there was any point and if any games/applications would be helped by it?

Quite a few games will easily swallow 1.8gigs of memory on ultra settings, doesn't leave much for the OS and other applications... it shouldn't cause any problems but if it does you might have to look at PAE options, etc.

if your rig is overclocked and the ram isn't identical it might cause some problems but otherwise go for it

I forgot to say - if your running in dual channel mode - 2 sticks is often the fastest, filling the other 2 slots can sometimes slow down memory performance.

Plus theres also the memory timing issues - if they can do the same timings all well and good.

They will be 3 identical sticks of PC3200, probably won't be overclocked.
