Hi guys, I have a Samsung SyncMaster T220 monitor running at 1680x1050 and was wondering is there any point going to something running at 1920x180/1200.
Would I notice any difference?

Not really, but you would be able to run games at a higher res, watch full HD movies at full HD res and of course you will have a dual screen setup. Oh, having the extra screen estate

Do you do any video editing work? Dual screens great for that.

1920x1200 is an ask for some of the newer games but your spec is more than enough.

I have 1920x1200 and would never go back but I upgraded from 1280x1024, not sure I would if I already had 1680x1050.

The 1200 vertical is more desirable than the 1920 width for me personally.

I upgraded from a 1680x1050 viewsonic vx2025 to a 1920x1200 benq fp241w, games look fantastic at the higher res, and the ability to watch HD movies at full res is great. I could never drop down in res again.

Hmm thanks guys given me something to mull over.
If I was going to do the upgrade what would you suggest I look at? Desk isn't big enough for duel screens and I'd like sometihng the same size as my 22" or 24" max. Plus I guess I'd need a blu ray drive for HD movies...

I've just gone from a 21" CRT running at 1600x1200 to a 24" Benq LED backlit running at 1920x1080 and I've been blown away by the difference. A lot of that is down to the 4:3 to 16:9 goodness, but I'd still consider it worthwhile in your case.

Get a new desk, make an extension! Dual screens ftmfw! I'd rock the 24", it really does make a difference. I went from a 1440x900 to 1920x1080 and I only use the old one for temp/resource monitoring and side tasks (downloads, music players etc.) while I bask in the glory of my good monitor. Plus, 1920x1080 24" would sit nicely next to your old monitor height wise.

If you just cannot go for dual screens, then yes, you will notice a difference. It won't be mindblowing, which is why I suggest going for a 24" to capitalise on the upgrade, but you'll notice the difference mainly when it comes to textures in 1080p content. If you do go for a bluray drive, I've had no trouble with my LG, whereas I've seen a good few threads on the OcUK one, so perhaps spend the extra.

I'm contemplating the same thing, how many of you have got or are looking to get a 120Hz 3D monitor like the Acer one at the top of this page, are they as good as they seem? sorely tempted
