I am looking to replace my 6800u P4 setup with a nice QUIET system, running largely at stock for now. Are there any likely compability problems with this lot and have I missed anything better?

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Hiper HPU-4M580 Type R 580W ATX2.2 PSU
Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

It's over 2 years since I built a system from scratch and I am well behind on current standards. All advice would be welcome. Particularly whether the PSU is a nice quiet, reliable one and whether it has the necessary connectors (gonna build over Xmas break so the last thing I want is to find I am short a part to do the build).

change the ram

Thanks for the comment, but as a total newbie where DDR2 is concerned, what would you be recommending? Id assumed that as I am not looking to overclock to the limit that 800Mhz RAM would be okay.

Happy to hear of any better options.

The PSU is powerful enough but it doesn't have good reputations of being quiet under heavy load nor reliable over time.

I'd go for corsair or seasonic if you want a true silent PSU.

Okay, let's assume I have subbed this then for the Hiper:

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU.....

Excellent choice of PSU.

TBH if you are not ocing at all then a PC5300 will do the job just as well.

But I am only seeing a tenner or so different in the drop to PC5300 and as the PC6400 was on TWO ....

And I assume you mean the Corsair is the excellent choice, not the Hiper in my original post :p

Whoops. Looking at the wrong one. PC5300 Geil 2gb drops £35. So let's assume I am only looking for safe, stable and quiet overclocks, that would be fast enough?
