I was just wondering if there's any semi/pro gamers here and you travel abroad to enter competitions, do you actualy take your PC+monitor abroad say to the USA or Japan with you or do most competitions have high-end gaiming systems set-up for you? Also if you are taking your own PC's abroad with you do you have custom designed flight cases to put them in ensuring they won't get damaged in cargo>?

I expect they will always take their machine with them. I would chuck it in a suitcase with some soft things around it, but if you were really serious you could probably buy a case.

Are you pro then? :p

Most have computers set up for them to prevent any potential fiddling or cheating which may go on. Plus different countries have different electrical systems, so you would have to change your PSU, though some work in some countries others don't.

I'm not a progamer but I have travelled to a lan abroad.
Two of us took shuttles as handluggage and hired monitors at the venue. Customs guy in Stockholm thought they were pretty cool as he'd never seen a computer like that before :)

Another guy put his case in the main cargo and had it took us ages to get his system back up and running, stuff had come dislodged, his soundcard wasn't working and all sorts. To be honest I think if you are going to take your PC on a plane it's imperative that you remove all the components and fit them at the other end.

pro circuit involes playing on the machines provided by the tournament sponsor, too much effort to carry your own, just take your mouse/keyboard/headset.

have you seen baggage handlers at work? not surprising at all tbh.

hell i dont even trust royal mail with potentially breakable goods anymore...let alone baggage handlers playing "lets hear what breaks"

My mate is a pro gamer and as said above he doesn't take his rig with him abroad. Not that it matters if it did get lost or anything since most the stuff hes got he get's free anyway, he's just been given a new rig recently.

AMD provided full machines for TAG at all events (where no other provider was able to) before they pulled the plug on sponsor ship.

I played star craft sort of pro for a bit. Went to a tournament in Korea & France & played in many UK counterstike ones.

Yes they have PC's setup, but you take your own mouse + pad. Some allow you to use your own keyboards, others don't.

It's just basically to put everyone on the same level and forces everyone to use default settings.

got to have your own mouse/mat/keyboard if you are a pro also take your own configs on a cd :), as takes weeks for me to get use to new mouse/mat/keyboard etc
