PAAAAAAAAAAAAARP my first parp in 2 years :D

about to stomp my way into the top 50 in our team, and have just today fitted a usb>ps/2 convertor & proper nice IBM Preferred KB (top top corporate kb) to my laptop, to a net gain of a new pulsing record for modern times just for today. not quite as high as i used to be but o well :D

i'm coming :D

that'll be cell #48 for me then. really getting stuck into active pulsers now like stolly and thetross - you won't last long :p :D

It's all because i'm off work at the moment - I'm going to stretch this as long as possible, It's good for pulsing..
Not too good for crunching though as i cant afford new bits :( :sob type emote:

My farm has become old and in disrepair over the last two years (awwww) but all the infrastructure - good cases, good power supply, good connectivity stuff is still there, just requires augmenting slightly with some new networking parts and sorting out drivers, software, settings etc. I have yet to get round to this, but once i have it's only a matter of time before i have to go back to work, and then cash will flow. I'm upgrading a lot of stuff anyway once i have the money to do so.. just not sure how far i'm going to go :p

It's quite offputting with the modern crunching projects, how you seem to need a load of uberpowerful stuff to get going properly. Back in the day i had no top hardware until about 6mo before i lost a connection. Now it seems to get anywhere, i'm going to have to get at least two, pretty high end rigs, and then i'd feel bad about not upgrading other machines, which due to age are now worth £0.45 or less, but still have many years of useable life in them, due to my supreme skill and genius and selecting the right parts.

this is why i pulse only at the mo

too right it is. It replaced a duron 1200, that was on a ECS K7SOM. I've given it 768mb pc2100 ram, but along with a 15gb maxtor drive, it's been on, at load, 24hours, 7 days a week since i fitted it. been the most reliable and hassle free computer I have ever had.. lol - i think it's prob something to do with the fact that palomino cores were poor overclockers, I could only get an extra 61mhz out of it on that board, so it's run @ stock for most of its life

It's in a pretty poor matx packard bell OEM case left over from the P2/3 days, but has a pretty good cooler on it, never been above 57c in all the time i've had it - and it only was there for very short times during the height of summer. It's that rig that somehow i can't bring myself to upgrade, being how damn good its been over the years - my folks use it as a power rig, for ripping cds etc - it's better than their duron 1ghz lappy, i've used it to play music when downstairs, it ran my net connection, and my setiqueue, and seti1 for years

It's about the fastest chip that mobo will support, and i dont buy matx stuff anymore.. so.. it'll keep being used till it dies - i'll probably crunch on it again once i get other stuff sorted :D

EDIT: in my previous post i mentioned selecting the right parts. The pc that chip is in is a testament to this. It's got a Antec Smartpower 350w PSU that I purchased from this 'ere members market (for £12 - somewhat a bargain in those days). I then modified it with a 120mm fan. The cooler on the chip, is a Coolermaster "XP3200" 80mm jobbie. These were excellent coolers, I deadspot modded mine, and lapped it. An identical cooler keeps my XP-M1600 cool (44c load) at 2470mhz, 1.75v. Not bad for a £7 HSF. These, together, have kept that palomino core XP2100 (which were hot chips) well cool, even in a case with NO fan blowholes, designed for a P3. - Guess i got lucky with the K7SOM - although before i went offline, ECS/PC Chips were building a reputation for solid, if not all that fast motherboards, and the K7S series is what started it for them.

/shrug
dunno really but yes its still going, still in daily heavy use, still ticking along seemingly unstoppably :D in fact i still tell the story of how i "acquired" it - has become a legend amongst me and my friends lol :D

I would ask you to tell that story, but I won't for two reasons:

a) The word 'acquired' is usually used to suggest something of a dubious nature, and

b) Writing an essay in response to diogenese's question when a simple 'yes' would have sufficed would indicate that you already suffer from severe verbal diarrhoea (or the written equivalent of); telling a story could be lethal, given that my name and 'you won't last long' appear in the same sentence.

I posted something in here that made dio laugh at 4am - which is no mean feat for anybody. He was looking for a new team home for the parts, and decided he had a winner due to the aforementioned post.
