Basically i'm making a short film and need to create a small explosion (blow a doll up essentially). So just wondering if anyone knows anything about Pyrotechnics (in a professional sense of course). Or of anywhere in the Liverpool area that i can go to for some pr0 advice etc. :)

E-mail in trust if this is a bit much for a forum.
And please no-one post info on how to make bombs!, bombs are bad, mmmkay!.

I used to open shotgun shells, then use the gunpowder for small explosions. You could get a dozen or so firecrackers, empty them out in a plastic foil or something, place it in the doll, douche the doll in petrol, use a long fuse and bang.

Also I'v heard that liquid oxygen can make anything go boom but that's gonna be a bit steep.

You can make a low powered plastic explosive from standard household products. A small amount would probably be ideal for what you want to do. I won't post a guide on how to make it for obvious reasons. Get the yellow pages out, there are experts who specialise in this sort of thing. Should be under pyrotechnics or special effects.

Righto. Yus indeed, i've been reading up too but tbh i don't fancy blowing my arm off for the sake of a 7 minute short film.
Had a look on yell.com but i can only find firework stores, dare say i'll have a ring around tomorrow.

Spose it's getting a bit close to a troublesome thread. I was more hoping for contact with experts :).

In a sense, we should be glad. There are enough short-tempered ppl around here, let alone one who is expert on explosives. ;)

I googled home explosives and the first hit had a few instructions. I don't know if it is reliable. Can't link, the site would be frowned upon.

Have you thought about contacting a local theatre or any other entertainment venues or suppliers and see who they use for stage pyrotechnics, as that is essentially what you are doing?

Benneh email me at my AIM Address in Trust. I supply gases to Special Effects and pyrotechinc companies. (Propane & CO2) I can put you in contact with some guys who can help you out with advice and more importantly a safe way to do it
