I work for a company that specialises in quantum computing

I've been working in the area of quantum for about two years now as a day job.
If you're interested - all of the main vendors have simulators that you can install at home and play with without needing to run against a real QC. I'd recommend learning around number probability, statistics (for error rates etc) plus fast Fourier transforms (used in QFFT). Those will be a good starting point to understand the steps in algorithm circuits etc.
