I have been reinstalling quite a few pc's for people lately and the worst thing is all the ms updates as it takes 3-4hrs. So is there any other way to do the updates that's a bit faster?

I recently re installed windows 7 pro 64 bit (at the weekend) but didn't want the hassle of all the updates so I followed this guide here. think there is like 214 updates from a SP1 ISO file to download.

it tells you to download a file called UpdatePack7R2 version 15.2.17, this is updated every so often when new updates come out.

it tells you how to update the current ISO or DVD with all the updates and then you can either re create a ISO file or copy the extract iso to a USB stick which is what I did

after following that post I had 22 updates to download and saved a lot of time and hassle.

I use Simplix Pack for my AIO I have saves me an insane amount of time, it does take a while to make my ISO but it has every version of Windows 7 in it but it is well worth it :)

We use WSUS server at work which is a easy to set up, but home as said above WSUSoffline is great, never got around to using it at home but may have a play one day.

link is not working

i recent found a better and quicker way

install win7 64bit from USB pendrive
install IE11
install updates
install office 2013, opening it to activate the updates for office suite.
install full updates for office.
do not install any drives, leave them out.

when all updates installed. sysprep the machine.

use winpe and DSM to capture the wim file to USB external hard drive.

boot up the machines, complete the sysprep. rename the wim file on the external hard drive to 'install.wim'.

then overwrite the install.wim in sources folder in win7 installation folder.

i tested install on 4 differetn machines. its perfect :)

no updates anymore woohoo

Best way to reduce post build updates is to slipstream all the updates into the .wim file, you can get a tool called windows update downloader, this downloads all the relevant updates for whatever OS you select from a dropdown in one go.

Then used powershell to slipstream the updates in one shot, this reduced post build updates significantly!
