You could look at one of the stupidly strong Brewdog beers, though they are some what more than a tenner though Penguin is around a tenner. Depends if he's an IPA/hop fan though.

I like the idea of buying a pricey bottle of good ale, something you wouldn't normally buy yourself. I don't mind going a bit over £10. Now to find somewhere reliable that stocks the stuff....

You can get a 500ml bottle for £10, a few places have it online but I'd have no idea if they were reliable or not.

So many types of Real Ale that choosing one would be difficult and it depends on what he likes.

I love just about everything from Badger Ales though...
