Any reason not to go for Infinity?

Guys, as title, not really up to speed with this new fibre tech, but basically I live in an area with no cable, and currently receive 7mb or so broadband.

BT Infinity is now available to me, at the same cost, and I am wondering if there are any drawbacks?

I understand I won't be able to use my current Belkin G+ MIMO router, which is not really a problem, but is there anything else I need to consider?

Can I purchase another router to take the place of the Belkin, or should I just stick with the HomeHub that BT will provide?

Thanks a lot in advance :)

You probably could use your router, through the BT provided one, would require a bit of tinkering but it should work. Only drawback is possibly the 100GB monthly limit?

Its been upped to 300GB now. So still not "Unlimited", but better at least.

The FUP doesn't really worry me that much as I don't do a lot of downloading anyway (at a guess around 30-50gb per month absolute max) I just wondered if there were any known pitfalls?

Not really, none that I can think of anyway. People have been reporting fluctuating speeds, but its a fairly new technology over here, so I'm sure it will only get better.

You can use any router with an ethernet WAN interface with BT Infinity. In other words, all the 'cable' routers will work fine. You just need to configure PPPoE on the router as the BT-supplied Home Hub does the PPPoE termination, but it's easily swapped out.

You could still use your belkin router as a router but you will be wanting a n standard router since throughput on a g router is around 20mbit. Id try the one you get first.

I think I'll end up on this too, been with o2 for just under a week in the new house and getting half the speed they quoted me, fluctuation in games online with other people just browsing on the network etc..

We're due to have had our local exchange done on 1/9 according to samknows, all boxes are in place etc..

I think double price is worth it for 4-5x (minimum) download speed increase, specially as I knocked another tenner off my mobile bill!

There doesn't appear to be many exchanges enabled for BT fibre, i would personally hold fire for another few months so we can get a better idea how the new technology is going.

Only for wireless obviously - personally I'd recommend using a wired network for anything above ADSL2+ speeds (i.e. VM 50mbit cable, BT Infinity etc) in which case the existing router should be OK.

Thanks again guys. Re the connection type, the main socket is right next to my PC (had it installed there purposely) so that I can connect via ethernet.

The Wii, my iPhone etc all use the wireless side of things.
