Any reason not to?

Hi all,

My 4770K rig (see sig) currently has 8GB RAM. It's not great RAM (Corsair Vengeance LP) and is only running at stock (1600MHz, I hear it doesn't overclock well and I'm not a great OC'er, even worse when it comes to RAM).

My 4770K is OC'd to 4.3GHz, mostly due to the heat, despite being watercooled with a custom loop inc. a 240mm rad. Currently running 1.175v for that OC.

Now I'm wondering if there's any reason for me not to add an extra 8GB of RAM I have sat around here? It's also Corsair Vengeance LP.

Now I'm not sure I really need the extra, but if I have it, any reason not to use it? My main concern is that the extra strain on the IMC (is that the right term?) might reduce the stability of my OC.

Thanks.

Hi :D

IMHO, no reason not to add it. It has been known even back to the original i7 x58 systems that populating all the memory slots will effectively put more strain on the processors IMC. But from my experience this only seems happens when aiming to achieve the highest possible clocks from the cpu. With a 4770K@ 4.3ghz and 16GB @ 1600mhz you should be absolutely fine.
