I have just reinstalled XP on my laptop and it installed with ie6. I did have ie7 and wmp11 installed before and had problems with wmp11 so am leaving that off but I am not sure about ie. I don't use it much, just very occasionally when a site doesn't work in opera. Windows update keeps nagging me to upgrade. Is there any good reason not to? (remember I am still on XP)

thanks

If you are a web designer, maybe an idea to have IE6 standalone. Which can be downloaded easily. Can't think of any reasons not to go IE7. Personally use Firefox!

IE7 has a weird/nasty interface - there's one.

It's not weird or nasty, it's just a bit different. Maybe it takes some getting used to. In my opinion it's vastly superior to the interface in IE6 and the most useable browser I've come across (it certainly beats Firefox and Opera in my eyes)

Anyway, the OP said (s)he was only going to use it ocassionally if another browser couldn't open a website, which makes it an academic point.

I wouldn't bother with IE6. Whilst IE7 isn't much cop compared to Firefox or Opera it is still much better than IE6. Plus you can now download IE7 without needing to have a check on XP I think?

Not liking ie7 at the moment i get ads and pop ups coming up when i am using firefox an ie window will fire up even just browsing here using firefox i have all the security updates and pop up blocker on looks like there is a hole in the code.
It's mostly sky poker pop ups and things like that.

i loved IE7 when it was beta, i used it for ages befor it was released, then i removed the beta to get IE7 on release day, and when i was using IE6 to download IE7 from the Microsoft Website, i relised how i liked IE6 more.

So im on IE6 now, alltho i might change to IE7 again one day.

You have some sort of adware installed - IE7 doesn't load when it's not supposed to and it certainly doesn't decide to show pop-ups while you're using another browser.

Yep have spybot always have going to install ad aware and too if still not work will try hijackthis yes i get ie starting up by itself with sky poker etc etc.
This is a fresh format too hmm looks like im going to have to nuke ie

considering that the opera interface is completely customisable, i don't see how IE7 could be better.
