Hi,

I currently have an E6600 not OCed. I was wondering whether would I see any real performance gains from an upgrade to 6850...My VGA is an 8800GTS 256MB

thanks in advance

save your cash, and up the fsb on your e6600 from 266 to 333, instantly making it an e6850... (effectively..)

Performance wise, you will notice very little gain in games, unless of course, you play a lot of supreme commander, then an upgrade to quad core for the same price might be worth it (i don't deem the need to upgrade a pc for 1 game worthy..)

id agree, dont upgrade the 6600 is fine :)

i upgraded from a 6320 that ultimately proved to not even hit 2.7 stable - sold it to my work, and got a 6850 which now does 4gig so that to me was worth it.

but otherwise no point yet :)

I'm not sure there's any real benefit or difference between 3ghz and 4ghz as far as non cpu dependant games go as long as your not bottlenecking the gpu
i would say the graphics card is a more worthy upgrade.
I'd like to see the fps difference on a non cpu dependant game
say with an 8800 gts core 2 duo one at 4ghz one at 3ghz maybe i am guessing
but i think the difference will be minimal.
Base this on not seeing a big increase in fps when i clock mine to 3.6 ghz
from 3.2 thus i let it sit at 3.2.
My advice is if your sat with a duo and 8800 gts wait for at least xmas
penryn and x38 etc.
