any reccommend a good old pci graphics card

ok my mate who is sh*te with comps has finally decided to update his computer after buying counter strike source and realising its so laggy cause he has no graphics card any one recommend a gd graphics card round 256mb+ for pci (not express)

first of all id take out the swear word or the mods will be angry...

Second of all, does he not have an AGP slot ? Is PCI really his only option? If so i dont think anything will be able to make CS:S run smoothly that must be a seriously old computer.

What is the rest of the spec?

If he has an agp slot then Id look for a cheap second hand 9800 pro. If not then the best bet is a new setup.
 
Do you know a rough spec? Is it a media pc or some kind of cut down modern thing or is this a really old pre agp thing ? Are we talking about a Pentium 2 or something, Though if that was the case im suprised he got CS:S even running.

PCI gfx cards are pretty old these days I dont rem the last one brought out. I think there was a pci fx series card and a 9x00 from ati. But they were pretty awful and cost a shed load too. I knw for sure there was a gf4 mx pci, but as I was saying its total cack and prob wont improve things at all for source engine.

Id tell him to play the original CS, its arguably better in some way anyway, time to save up for an upgrade imo.

That price in particular is ridiculous - £70 for a card that will be fairly horribly slow. I would say there's really no point in trying to get a PCI card to speed things up, you won't get anywhere. A Dell PC with integrated graphics and no AGP or PCI-Express slot isn't meant for gaming and short of changing just about every component you won't be able to change that.
