Any recommendations for a 27" gaming monitor?

A mate of mine's age-old 24" monitor has just died and so he's looking to replace it with a decent 27" gaming monitor.

His specs are pretty much identical to mine - Ryzen 5 2600, Vega 56 with 16GB of RAM - and he is looking for the following:
  • 1440p resolution (4K seems overkill and would probably tax his setup a bit too much?)
  • IPS panel (unless someone can make the case for a TN or VA panel?)
  • 144+Hz screen
  • Freesync (I presume with him having the Vega 56 GPU?)
Budget-wise he's fairly open but obviously doesn't want to spend more than he needs to!

He's been looking at the Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQ which seems to tick all the boxes but it's out of stock pretty much everywhere I've looked!

Can anyone recommend any other monitors that tick these (and any other) boxes?

No thoughts from anyone?

I did a bit of searching about and with very little actually in stock he's gone for the Gigabyte Aorus FI27Q from OCUK - seems to tick all the right boxes and get some decent reviews!

Anyone got any experience of this model?

Only has DP1.2 which means no full 10bit at 144hz.

LG 27GL850-B is definitely worth considering if you can find stock.

Yeah, I had a look at the LG but finding stock in the UK seems to be the biggest issue for that one! (not keen on buying abroad tbh!)

I read this too - but then one YouTube review I watched suggested you can use the the full 10-bit colour at 120hz, which I'd imagine will be fine?? Truth be told I have no idea what sort of practical difference there is between 8-bit and 10-bit! The "'p" variant is typically £100 more and, wait for it.......out of stock everywhere! :D

Thanks for the replies!

Just this minute ordered myself a Aorus FI27Q, didn't see the need for the extra £100 for the -P variant.

The most I have ever spent on a monitor so it better be good, my last monitor was just a plain old 19" iiyama thing. Possibly £100 tops.

Been reading loads of reviews and it was either this or wait for the Pixio Px7 prime.

The LG 27GL83A-B uses the same panel as the 27GL850-B minus USB ports and can be bought for a fair bit cheaper too. Out of stock but can be ordered.

So I was in the same boat as your friend, looking for a monitor with those exact requirements and after much research ended up choosing the LG27GL850-b. Received delivery of it today from Overclockers and couldn't be happier with the choice and also service from OCUK.

For me it was also between the LG and the Asus TUF GAMING VG27AQ. Why the Asus lost out was due to the reportedly poorer performances for refresh rates <100 and a number of users complaining of headache/nausea after using the monitor for prolonged periods.
