Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes...

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card with a price range of around £250. I would like to stick to nvidia preferably, unless there is a blistering good AMD deal. Could you please try to help me find a good one, as I'm unfamiliar with nvidia, and a bit un-tech savy in general.

My current rig:

  • Asus P8Z77-V LX Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
  • Intel Core i5 3570K 4.4GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor
  • Corsair Vengeance LP Performance Memory modules 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz CL9 Blue
  • MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
  • XFX Pro750W

Since this is a related question I thought I'd post it here.

I am thinking about buying the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 2048MB [GV-N670OC-2GD] http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-095-GI.

But then I saw that there also is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 4GB version of the same card [GV-N670OC-4GD].

I can get the 2GB version for around 300£ and the 4GB for 340£.

My question would be if it is worth buying the 4GB version? Or it's just a worthless gimmick?

The 4GB version also takes up 3 slots instead of 2 and I think that might be a problem if wishing to set up a 3 way SLI.

No it does not:confused:

The first 2 are 2 slot cards and the third is slightly bigger than 2 slots (but still not 3 slots).

It will do no harm having the 4GB version but the 4GB is aimed at multi monitor setups and 3 way SLI.

+1.

@badbuy:

You need multi monitor or 1440p and 2 GPUs minimum to even begin thinking about gaining any benefit from 4GB over 2GB.

In today's games 2 GPUs and 2GB is fine all the way up to 5760*1080 and you're limited by raw grunt before the physical VRAM amount comes into it.

That said, above 1080p the AMD 7900 series are an outright better option. I haven't tested 2560*1440 but at 5760*1080 even 7950s are faster than 680s when overclocked.

The Gigabyte 4GB version of that card (GV-N670OC-4GD) is:

Didn't really look at 4GB GTX 670 from other brands, but I guess Gigabyte is the only one that decided to make it that "Fat".

Thanks for the advice!

@ Badbuy, I just used this site for reference. I show my love for OcUK by recommending their cards to all potential buyers.

Shame it wasn't vice versa :(
