Hi all,

Something's exploded on my PC and I can't figure out what it is. Lights, pumps, fans all come on but boot LED always on and no video out. I've taken it to a local shop but they weren't much help, said it might be CPU, I replaced it, still doesn't boot. I also replaced the PSU, still the same. I can't really afford to buy a replacement for every part of the system so looking for someone in London who can actually diagnose this for me.

Anyone had good luck with a shop in London (North London especially)?

What do you mean exploded? What were you doing at the time it happened?
Try to use a torch and see if you can see any scorch marks
Or try the sniff test

The most common components to "explode" are (1) mobo (2) GPU (3) PSU.
If it's the mobo, that can also take out the CPU as well
If it's the PSU then no component in the pc is safe (ie all can be damaged)
The root cause of the mobo/GPU spontaneously exploding could still be the PSU so that will need testing to make sure the voltages are within spec

Pumps? You have a watercooled PC? Did you get it built for you? If so where?
When did the problem start? Why do you think it exploded? Did you hear or see something?

What I meant by explode: The PC suddenly shut down while playing a game, loud pop, burning smells. Then won't boot afterwards.

PC is my own build, AIO cooler. Problems started suddenly, no warning signs that I could tell.

Really hoping it's not the whole system fried

yeah, either a transistor or capacitor definitely blew. it would've happened suddenly, nothing you could do to prevent it
can you spot where that is? if you can see where the burn mark is, it'll help us narrow down the possible component failures

Update:
MOBO was for sure dead, I got a new one today and the PC rose from the dead. One stick of RAM also seems to be gone, tried reseating it but it's not recognized and lights are also dead on it.

Now I need more help. I have swapped in a new PSU, CPU, and MOBO and it works, but now I wonder if the PSU or CPU were even the problem. Do you think it's safe to try swapping the CPU back into the new motherboard to check if it runs? The CPU is a 13700KF so I would really rather not eat the cost if I can return the new one.

The reverse is way more likely (a motherboard killing CPUs), so I'd consider it fairly safe to try, but motherboard killing CPUs do happen.

Main suspect is the PSU. What brand and model is it? I've had PSUs blow caps (admittedly 20+ years ago) and notionally carry on operating after. Whatever you do, don't open it up to have a look.

If it's a DIY build, is anything powered via an adapter?
