I’m trying to align a larger (120cm compared to existing 75cm) satellite dish to improve reception of HD Freesat channels down in SW France and I’m having a nightmare.

I cunningly purchased a wideband LNB which is required for the new Arris 4K Freesat boxes, but the old Humax ones need a universal LNB which turns up tomorrow.

My main problem is that the new dish is aligned identically to the old one it sits 2 metres above and using the old LNB with a signal meter says it’s aligned perfectly as do several sat pointer apps on my iPhone, but the Humax box reports no signal. Refit LNB (using same cables) to old dish and alls well on SD channels.

What blindingly obvious mistake am I making?

Surprised a 75cm dish works at all. I had a 120 and a 130 dish in the same area of France and had nothing but issues with them both. I ended up going down the IPTV route. It can be done legally if all you want is freeview channels.

The 75cm is okay for Freeview SD channels on Astra 2D/E. It’s the HD channels on 2F/G that it struggles with.

Found out what was wrong this morning. The elevation markings on the new dish mount are 2° on the low side and I had to set it to 35° to get the required 33°.

Indicated Signal is now 100% on all channels (was 65-75% on old dish) and Quality is 90-100% on all channels (was 50-75% on old dish.
