Morning GD!

I'm looking for the average entry level salary for the above, job responsibilitys will include:

1) Managing, packaging and deploying updated software for the company
2) Maintaining the existing image (updating the software/task sequence)
3) Ensuring windows updates are deployed
4) Taking ownership of projects and displaying the ability to project manage.

From what I can gather with searching last night, money seems to be geared towards late 30's - early 40's

Can anyone shed any light on this? :)

Will update more in 15 literally getting off the train now!

At my place they don't just employ a guy to maintain SCCM8. Its too small a job, even with 4000+ machines, all our maintain the network machines entries and run the active directory domains etc.

That seems like a lot of money for doing windows updates etc - is this London or something?

Can add more to it now I'm in the office.

Yes location is Central London.

Other responsibilities include but not limited to:

- Being the middle man between the various IT teams
- Reporting
- You end up being involved with most projects for deploying any software
- It can also include software testing and approval for the company.

It's a chunk of my current post Phate, easy work but you just have to pay attention to what you're doing. Does make life a lot easier for other support staff though and when done right it really does make you feel like a kid in a sweet shop!

Some people struggle to get their head around it, terminology is annoyingly recycled (how many things need to be called a client?) but on the whole it's just processes and following them. Windows update via SCCM couldn't be easier though, surprised they even bother mentioning it!

I'd be all over that job if it wasn't down south good luck, looks like a decent varied post for a change :)

Thanks mate, hopefully it'll be about 50% of my role in the next month or so. Ta!

Salary offered seems reasonable for the role assuming you will be the head of a team and therefore have the people management responsibilities etc that go with that.

Well I don't know what will be offered yet, just doing my homework for when it does come to discussion time.

If it's purely the SCCM role, and in central London, then I'd say you're looking at 35-40k maybe.

In a previous role I started as purely an SCCM person and was on around that (not London, but salary was negotiated up for various reasons).

As said above, take a look at that Jobswatch site that has all the average or however they've calculated it salaries, and also look on CWJobs with the keyword of SCCM and see what comes up.

I'd expect then wanting an amount of business analyst or project managing experience - got any? Any formal qualifications behind you in these areas?

Sounds like its more a project management/reporting role with SCCM thrown in as your main tool.

Windows updates, software deployments are easy in SCCM, if you know what you are doing. It is one of Microsoft's more complex products, like Exchange/SharePoint. You can do things which can have a big impact on your entire estate. A few mis clicks and not enough technical knowledge can see you rebuild an entire estates Windows machines, for example.

To be honest, the technical work doesn't seem to be anything more than a reasonable system admin should be able to do. The salary also seems comparable to those based in the London (Big City) kind of areas for a Sys Admin type role with bits of PM and reporting thrown in.

I deal with mainly the OSD element for XP and Windows 7 across multiple domains and SCCM 2007 R2 SP2 installations. It's a full time role for just that and a couple of other things thrown in as well (like assisiting packagers setting up deployment queries etc).

Based on a 37.5 hr week, i get 35k gross.

Salary is very high for that job. Sounds like a drag n drop monkey.

[edit]That's not factoring in central London. I have no idea what the salary markup is there.

Yea, afraid this is a side part to my job mate. And I get pair £25k... The image side of things is minor. So, for what you are suggesting is beyond unreal. I did this at my previous job on sub £20k for a site of 6000+ machines in a team of 3...

I don't think I could have put it better (well infact I couldn't think of the terminology for it, so thanks! :))

One of the main tasks when I was in an SCCM role was the software packaging side of things which mainly involved packaging up software to run unattended including any post install config.

Easy enough for well written apps, but not everything is well written ;)

Used to have fun working out how to do it all and was definitely more than just a 'drag and drop monkey's' work.

One of the reasons I could ask for more money is that they'd gone years without finding anyone competent at doing the job, even the last contractor managed to stuff things up on his silly high day rate, enough that I basically had to start from scratch with everything.

Done properly it can turn things into a very slick operation, I kind of miss that work now :(

As said take a look on CWJobs, location London, keyword SCCM and see what pops out.
