I'm currently with Be* on their 24mb unlimited package, which in reality is only around 6mb at best due to our distance from the local exchange. This is still much quicker than any of our previous providers including Virgin, BT and TalkTalk.

Anyway, Sky have offered us 20mb broadband free for the first 3 months then £10 a month after, saving us £7.50 a month. Speaking to the chap on the phone, he says Sky's broadband is unlimited and not subject to throttling (*cough Virgin), just like Be*, who's service doesn't vary no matter what time or day it is.

Just looking to hear from some users with first hand experience with Sky broadband. Obviously the service we are getting is fine, I'd much rather pay £7.50 extra a month than have slower service or one that dies in the evening; however from what Sky have said, it does sound promising.

Thanks :)

Im sure there is a limit but ive yet to find it
and ive heard of people regularly downloading 200gb a month
been on sky for 2 years and never had an issue. ;)

As above. Never had a problem with the sterling service provided by sky broadband. I can only get around 14mb, but the nice guy at Sky played with it for a long time to give me the absolute maximum my line could support.

That's good to hear, been waiting for Sky to sort my internet out (new house, phoneline isn't connected yet - should be on the 12th :D ) so I've been interested in the service they provide - again I'll be on the 20mb unlimited package along with tv + phone. I had heard some bad stuff about Sky before (many months ago) but it seems they are rather ace now :)

Fantastic service to be honest.

Been with Sky since June 2009 moved from Virgin Media, who were rubbish for me, Service is completely unlimited no throttling or anything like that. I connect at 13567kbps downstream.

Well worth it in my opinion, You do have Sky TV already don't you?

SKy has NO fair usage policy on its top package.
You could download 500GB a day at any time and they wont throttle you or say you have downloaded too much.:)

Sky is making that much money they just don't care. One of the only ISPs to be such a low price yet not bothed about download speeds/caps. I am an exisiting Be* customer and I am pleased with their service, however there has been some serious thoughts about going for the Sky TV package with sky phone and sky broadband unlimited.

Yep, just finally taken the plunge to get HD, which is when we got offered the broadband.

Thanks guys, I'll give Be* the one month's notice and get Sky signed up then. May even get a little increase in speed!

You are good to go then :)

I should add in the first 10days you'll be subject to DLM so keep the router on don't turn it off at all, Your speed will gradually rise from 4mb to what your line can handle, If after the 10days you feel you should be getting more from your connection just give Sky a call & they will try to increase it some more :)

Hope that helps.

i don't think you can get the sky broadband at all if you don't have sky tv, certainly not at the £10 a month deal anyways

I've had nothing but problems with Sky.

We were customers 6 months ago or so and had the 10mb package and the best I ever got was 2. We called every week or every other week about the crap speed and about the fact that every evening from 8pm to about 2am we would lose internet completely, but they had the nerve to say it was on our end (bare in mind the exchange is at the bottom of the street, maybe 50 metres away).

So we asked for a new router, which they did send us and it arrived within a week, but that didn't sort it. So, we told them we would get our own router to see if it was beacuse of their hardware and they said fine, but you need a code for it which they wouldn't give us. We asked why and they said if you use your own it isn't supported, so if it goes, they won't replace it or come out to see it, so we said alright...but they still wouldn't give it us.

Then, trying to leave them, we got confirmation over the phone on a recorded message that the account was now closed...yet we still got bills for the next 2 months and eventually, after being away with them for 2 and a half months, we managed to get rid of them and after telling the only bloke who works there with any sense the problems we had over the 14 months, he gave us a money off code thing for any Sky service because we didn't get the service we payed for, but it still wasn't worth it.

With Virgin now, getting the 20mb we pay for and getting that at any time during the day, every day.

and Gex, I think you can get Sky broadband with no other services but not on the £10 deal, it will be more expensive

If you were on the 10MB package then all hardware (other than the modem) would actually have been owned and maintained by BT. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) I wonder if you would have had the same issues if you changed to another non-LLU or non-cable BB provider (Virgin uses cable).

I have got a clear message that Sky is only worth while if you get the Unlimited package, which is provided by LLU.

However, there is no excuse for the fact that Sky did little to help you... they should have forwarded your connections issues to BT to investigate (again, correct me if wrong).

Finally, you must have Sky TV to be eligible for any of their BB services.
