I'm staying in the hotel next to this supermarket soon (it's a work thing), and I'm wondering if it is actually a supermarket (and which one), and hence if I'll be sorted for late-nite crispies and bad pasties, or if it'll turn out to be a B&Q or some tripe. Can't seem to find any of the usual suspects listing that as their address - anyone from Slough help me out?

Cheers,

MD

Used to be a co-op. Closed now and land taken over by Tesco I think.
Tesco is the one about 1/2 mile further west down the A4.

Funnily enough - I used to work there (about 20 years ago)

Luckily I managed to escape the supermarket (and the town) ;)

I'm still very much scarred though.

If you can't get a decent feed in there, you could always ask one of the druggies, chavs or drop-outs to sort you out on the high-street. Most do anything for a fiver.

Nope that one's a wasteland now (incoming rant warning):

Tesco bought the site from Co-op meaning you had two Tescos less than a mile from each other. The wanted to redevelop the other site but the council only agreed if Tesco agreed to sell the Co-op site to another supermarket to encourage competition. Tesco agreed, redeveloped their existing Tesco into a massive white cube of an eyesore that dominates the skyline, and then went back on the agreement, leaving it the only major supermarket in the centre of town. It also means that traffic near the station is stupid all day

*Breathe* Anyway if you fancy the short walk the new Tesco that is the other large supermarket on that map has practically everything you will ever need.

Including a constant overpowering stench of body odour inside, the last thing you need when food shopping. I refuse to go there now.

Im from slough! (well near it but not close enough to smell it, went to LGS) good to see so many slough-ians here :)

For the love of god do not eat from the chinese take away across the road from the hotel. Its terrible, and got fined a few months back for the state the kitchen was in.

And just to set the record straight - I was born there, spent 16 long years there.......have a few fond memories of the place, but thats all I want now. I just don't know what it is about the place, but everytime I go back, it just seems so depressing and lacking in any sort of beauty or culture. Its concrete and cold. To me it is the chaviest town in the UK (if there is such a thing)

The whole town needs a re-vamp and something to bring it into 2007 and out of 1977.

Yeah but you don't live in the castle either :p ;)

I work in Slough. While it's ok for the commute and the shopping I wouldn't want to live here.

Oh and don't park in the Brunel Way car park, pikies will nick your spair hub caps and/or spair wheel if they can. Tesco car park 3 hour free stay f t w.

edit:

Found this rather amusing

If the Earth ever requires an enema, Slough is undoubtedly where the tube will be inserted. Slough also happens to be THE Chav Capital of the UK, maybe even the world. Coincidence?

Bet you have to go through it to get to work though :p

I've lived in Slo since I was about two. I'm kind of sentimental about the place, but is really turning into a huge dump. The highstreet is run down, the community centres are no go zones and yet although I hate to jump on the bandwagon, it is now Chav central.

Thankfully not, straight from Windsor onto the M4 :D
I agree with your sentiments, every time I go to Slough it reminds me of a cross between the Soviet Eastern Bloc and mid-depression Britain.
