I have surround sound speakers setup.. With my wall space am struggling to use L R C speakers, Mrs just not happy.

Is there a soundbars I can connect to my AV receiver via speaker cable to use as the L R C ? Or maybe I could run optical cable from my AV receiver to the soundvar whith my surrounds still working in the chain?

Hopefully this is possible

Thanks

I have a decent centre speaker..... Could I not use that as my main fronts with 2x surrounds for a 3.1 setup with a subwoofer I have??? Or are the L R speakers that vital?

Hopefully this would work

3.1 would be front left, right and centre. You can't have rear left, right and centre, because the centre is used primarily for speech. Front left and right are essential for the main audio, while rears are mainly for effects. You could do away with rears and still get good sound, but if you do away with the front left and right, then there's not much point bothering.

You can get passive soundbars. There's Monitor Audio SB2, but not cheap at £500. Wharfedale did have the Diamond LCR, but that has been discontinued. There may be some others though.

Not sure optical to a standard active soundbar would work, at least not in conjunction with the rears. Your receiver will need optical output (Input will be no use for this purpose), but I doubt you could send only the front left, right and centre audio via the optical. It might work if you use soundbar only.
