Any (stoke) locals know of interesting restuarants?

Bored of steak house / indian / chinese - anyone able to recommend anything different in the north staffs / south cheshire area?

I've checked out some online reviews of some places (a Spanish in Newcastle / Japanese in Stoke) but the reviews are mixed - would prefer some personal recommendations.

I know you wanted something exciting but I need to recommend the old plough in Hanley. Simply the best steaks you'll evier have in Staffordshire.

Interesting, I know some one who loves it but as he lives on frosties and aldi beans I ignored his recommendation :p

Edit : almost Chinese so you may be sick of it too but there's two really good Thai restaurants in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Blue chilli on king street, and Art of Siam right in the centre. Touch and go between which is better, I'd edge towards blue chilli, but prefer the authentic thaidecor in art of Siam so find myself going there more.

Not at all, every time I'm holidaying in the Lakes I have to eat at the thai in ambleside, should really make the effort to try the Thai's in newcastle at some point but I'm wary of taking people there because most people can't cope with the heat (so hot, but so tasty you can't stop).

Even a chinese could surprise me, but honestly most just do the english favourites and it gets very samey.
