Hey im new to the forum, but been reading for a few months and i have finally put my spec together for a PC i will use at uni. I will need the TV card so i do not have to take a TV, and am wondering if it will cause conflicts which i have heard about. The budget is about £900 inc delivery.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - OEM - £114.95
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) - £14.95

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) - £94.95

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT - Retail - £129.95

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS5 - £114.95

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB OEM - £52.55
Samsung SH-W163 16x16 DVD±RW Serial ATA (Black) - £23.95
Any other solutions at a similar price that have better performance, i liked the SATA interface for neatness in the case

Logitech G5 Gaming-Grade Laser Mouse - £33.95

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 7.1 EAX Sound Card - OEM - £30.50
Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150 Media Centre Edition TV Tuner - £50.95
These two components i am unsure about if they are the best choice for the money, any suggestions?

OCZ ModStream 450w ATX2.2 Power Supply - £44.95
Is this adequate for the setup, i was considering the Seasonic 430, but this has modular and the cables are heatshrinked etc
Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case - £28.75
Are the case fans in the LAN boy any good or should i look into stretching budget for Akasa Ambers?

Subtotal £734.55
VAT £128.55
Total £863.10

Any other suggestions about the spec or the TV card/Sound card would be appreciated as they are the particular areas I am uncertain about.

Thanks in advance, Raj :)

I think a lot of people will agree when i say get a different PSU.

Seasonic, Antec, FSP, Enermax, to name but a few.....

Can't really go wrong with the Seasonic, gets lots of good press from the forumers here.

All the rest looks pretty sound to me matey, though i don't know much about sound cards, so you'll have to wait for someone else to comment there.

I wouldnt know, only ever brought a B-Grade item once from another site, and it was nothing short of a pain in the butt.

On the PSU front, its advisable to get a good quality one, there's bundles of webpages on the net, and plenty of people here who will tell you why a quality PSU is important.

Its up to you, but if i were you i'd settle for the Seasonic.

I understand that Enermax, Seasonic, FSP and Tagan are the best PSU's and theres a nice looking FSP 500W in B grade, just wondering what would be the draw backs.

Also, as far as im aware arnt the OCZ psus just rebadged FSP ones?

OCZ are excellent power supplies. Be careful with B-grade kit. There's probably a reason it's B-grade. I'm not saying it's all junk but you need to test soon after you buy it as there is only a 7 day shop warranty.

I checked the rails on the OCZ and it comes to about 29A on the 12+ so i figured it should be OK. From what i hear reading on THG they are highly rated for stability in the US.

Any one got thoughts on the Soundcard, what does OEM mean im missing out on apart from shiney box and manuals?

What are the drawbacks to ordering a PSU from B grade?

If it isnt up to scratch (i.e. it isn't working), you'll have to send it back, and going by my experience they will NOT refund your postage.

It can cost you a bomb - i personally wont ever buy B-Grade again due to the experience i've had.

OK i think i shall just stick with the OCZ PSU.

Any comments on the TV card becuase lately I have only heard of bad things about Haupage since i decided to get one.

OK after a lot of bad press about the Haupage not working/not being user friendly and no other suggestions i decided to swap that out, get rid of the OCZ modstream and put in a nice Tagan 530W PSU (rock solid hopefully and 40 A on the 12+ V)

Any other suggestions what to do about the TV card, such as monitors with built in cards or alternatives to the Haupage stuffs?

Thanks in advance, Raj
