Does anyone have any suggestions for a good, cheap and preferably quiet (or reasonably quiet) socket 478 cooler?

I ask as my nephews 2.4ghz P4 has been beeping at him, and the temp has been reaching 60-65c (retail heatsink).

The cheaper the better;), but the upper limit is about £25-30.

Thanks :)

i know the freezer 64 is a really good value cooler, so i would assume the Freezer 4 would be just as good and the reviews say they are good, google it

well worth a look for the price

Freezer 4 is excellent and, if you shop around, dirt cheap. I think I paid about £14 for mine about a year ago. It's next to inaudible (even with my old P4 3.2 Prescott) and knocks a good 8-10 degrees off CPU temps. The stock intel coolers are pretty rubbish TBH.

Btw you can probably 'fix' the stock cooler just by blowing the dust out of heatsink and fan and reseating it (after cleaning the underneath of the cooler and the top of the CPU) with some fresh thermal compound (arctic silver 5 for instance).

cheers, i'll get the artic cooler :)

I've already given the system a good clean, which dropped the temperature about a degree or two but not enough to be useful :(

The P4 2.4 doesn't produce an amazing amount of heat, and the retail cooler should be able to deal with it without a problem. Could you simply try re-seating the heatsink, removing the thermal sticker thing supplied and applying some AS3 or similar?
