Hi folks,

Bit of advice please, phone line acting up and according to BT we don't have any fault. Phone line noisy when it works, generally we're getting nothing though. People can't call us at all. Internet is disconnecting at random, rarely up for more than 5 minutes at time. No idea when this started, we only noticed because someone ended up calling our mobiles asking why we weren't answering the house phone - although it never rang!

I've checked our equipment in the house and it seems to be fine, phone works in my mates house down the road and his produces the same noisy line in my flat. Disconnected router whilst doing this. We only have 1 socket (usually with ADSL filter on it - removed whilst I tested the phones though).

Do I just keep on at BT or does it sound like something that'll probably be weather/exchange related? It's not an enormous problem, I'll be honest, I'm only annoyed because of the attitude taken by the BT wally on the phone "sorry no fault on your line - must be your equipment" even though I'd checked it.

Ta for any advice - will check later if I can get online :p

Here's a log from my router, voice goes at the same time as internet. I've tried leaving the router disconnected but we still can't get voice.

Just wondering if something is resetting itself in the exchange.

I had a very similar problem last year which occurred whenever it rained. I don't know exactly what the cause was but it required the services of an "underground engineer" to fix it. Two different engineers who came before claimed to have fixed it but the problem continued, so it took three trips altogether.

I had the same problem and it was a line fault down the bottom of my path. They came, dug a hole, fixed the fault, filled in the hole and sodded off

Unscrew the BT master socket and plug two different phones into the socket behind the outer case,

if you still get the interferance then it is definatley an issue with the BT Line and not any of your equipment,

Good luck with BT by the way:D

it'll be the db level thats too high hence noisy line and internet cutting out. If you have tried a diff filter it'll be the line its self. Good luck cos BT are bobbins, my folks have had this problem for years and its still knackarded.

Cheers folks, just been trying to get back on to say I've now checked with my neighbours phone (working) in the socket behind the case and it's the same.

Hopefully it's something daft, will give BT a call if it's the same in the morning doubt anything will happen on a sunday evening anyway!
