Hello all

My PC seems to have died on me and im hoping someone can pinpoint the problem based on my description of events and issues, as I have no real resources for testing and swapping out components.

First problem was my monitor (off 280X via displayport) entered power saving mode in the middle of a game of Civ 5, and I couldnt get it to display again with restarts etc.

Then I plugged the onboard graphics into my tv via HDMI and was able to get a display.

Restarted the pc to see if it would connect to the monitor via onboard gfx as I was trying to rule out monitor issues and assumed the 280X was the problem.

Upon restarting, no display and the pc shut itself off after a few seconds. Plugged it back in to the TV and booted it up only to have it shut down after a few seconds.

It was at this stage I noticed that no case fans were spinning and more worryingly the cpu fan was not spinning, however the graphics card was still powered on fine.

I left it for a while so the cpu could cool down and restarted again. Thankfully all the fans come on and the pc seems to boot, but I cannot get a display to show either through onboard graphics or the graphics card, both on the tv and the monitor.

I am almost certain that it does boot into windows, as my mouse is able to load the Corsair utility which changes the RGB lighting from default to my custom settings, which it normally does once windows logs on. Only problem is I cant see a damn thing. :(

All seems to be running smoothly now in terms of stability, all fans run fine just no displays from any source.

Anyone got any ideas as to the most likely culprit? Im guessing the motherboard has gone as the fans were not working (yet psu powered graphics card still worked) and no displays suggests something is amiss.

Sorry for the long post, just hoping for some thoughts. Cheers! :)

First thing I would check is for any loose cables, open the side up and gently push on each connection to make sure nothing has come loose. All it takes is a slight knock to the tower at some point or a cable that was not fitted securely in the first place for it to become loose.

Yeah that was one of the first things I checked (should have mentioned sorry) everything was secure and clipped in as it should be.

Just to update this, I took the PSU out to use in another computer since I added a graphics card, and upon booting up my two mechanical hard drives went up in smoke. Ssd boot drive thankfully remained intact though.

PSU also started to make an intermittent whine so I'm assuming it's knackered and hopefully to blame for all my issues. The hard drives aren't a big issue but I hope it hasn't taken anything else out with it.
