Any Tips for Getting Over A Pets Death :(

The beauty of pets (unlike human companions) is that it is very easy to get another one. No, it won't be the same, but if it works out it should take away those feelings of loneliness.

I had loads of pets when i was younger, and the majority died (as they tend to do). I got upset for a day or 2 and then mostly forgot about it.

I guess i don't get as attatched as some people.

Sorry to hear about your loss though mate.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Time is a great healer. Don’t bottle it up just grieve for him, it will pass. :)

Enjoy their life and move on, its an animal at the end of the day, its not like its flesh and blood.
Hmmmm, I was told in biology a long time ago cats are indeed 'constructed' with flesh and blood

As for advice, nothing beats getting another cat.

When our cat suddenly died at 7 years old we were sad but 2 months later we got another one that looks almost the same, only 6 years younger and amazingly he acts the same as well.

Losing a pet is an incredibly hard thing to go through; in all honesty it takes years to get over... if you ever do.

You always feel a little pain when talking about a cat/dog that died because they played such a huge part of your life... especially after so many years.

I lost my cat Jet a number of years ago, I was in very much the same situation as you as well. Had the cat nearly all of my life, she would wait for me when I got home from school, then college, then work. Sleep on my bed at night, sleep on my lap while playing video games. Its an awful thing to go through.

Time helps, and eventually the best thing you can do is get another cat.

It's now about 5 years or so since my cat died... my girlfriend and I have been living together for about 3 (almost 4) of those now and we just got two kittens together 5 months ago. They were only about 5 weeks old when we got them and we absolutely love them to bits.

It'll take time, but getting a new pet or pets really does help in the long run.

R.I.P Mario!

It's really sad when you lose a pet as they are family! We have two cats now, one is around 15 and the other 13, they have some life left in them yet and I think by the time they die I'll have moved away from home so it won't be so bad. My parents will be devastated.

The last time we had a pet die was our German Shepard , Jager. He was put down aged 7.5, I think he had a stroke and couldn't function properly. He basically lost control over the back half of his body. The night we had him put down my parents and two close family friends finished off a bottle of whiskey between them.

You will get over it and when you feel ready get another cat! When you are used to having a little companion around it's hard to adjust!

mate this thread has made me very sad, my thoughts are with you at this time, would getting a kitten to replace the little fella help or would that make it worse?

Unfortunately, i know what it's like. I had to put my last cat of 16 down due to renal failure. I can say that getting a new pet certainly helps to take your mind off it, but you'll always be able to look over the old photos and remember the awesome times :)
