Usually in the snow and ice and the wipers have siezed I can usually hear them attempting to move. However after yesterday mine have completly stopped working (front) not even making a sound. Tried the old warm water trick over the arms and joints under the bonnet.

Rear ones are working fine. Most of the snow and Ice has been cleared from my front windscreen etc

Check the fuse 1st, it may have popped as the wiper motor will be under lots of load trying to move wipers that are frozen to the windscreen.

It the fuse is OK it maybe the wiper motor itself that has died.

Sounds like you may have knackered the motor or a fuse attempting to use them whilst the screen was covered in ice/snow?

Try to locate the motor/fuse and see if you can hear it work or see if the fuse has blown?

What car ? If there is no movement/clicking then it's the fuse or the motor has burnt out.
Depending on the motor though it could just be a dodgey connection.

Crap. Expensive fix you think for motor? Possibly a DIY job ?

MK5 golf gt tdi 140 in 04 plate

Will check fuse first

I know most of the motor factors as we supply them with hosting, site to site comms and WAN connections but checked with them (they all use the same part lookup system "Autopart" but dont seem to be on there, looks like main dealer part source.

Checking fuses now.

One blown fuse found, however something's happened to my remote central locking, ffs :p

Not how I wanted to be spending my Saturday afternoon outside.

Remove the battery safely (for your car), replace the fuses and reconnect (again, following any procedures you may need too). Chances are it just needs a reset/uses that fuse.

Sounds odd but the interior light fuse on the 206 is actually 20A and supplies the immobiliser amongst other items.

Wipers working again, but central locking (from the fob) not working, but works when you use the button on the inside door.

Possibly needs resyncing but I wouldnt know why :\

Might try my other fob

Now, regarding my "Fault Finders" fee. I charge a nominal fee of £1000 per internet minute it takes for me to type a reply, therefore your current bill stands at a very reasonable £2000. I accept cash, paypal or first born child if unable to pay with money and prompt payment is preferred!

Many Thanks!

:D

Awww, I was hoping for your first born so I could add them to my baby sized ninja army which I use to defeat all my internet foes! They look all cute & lovely then WHAM, dirty nappy nunchucks to the face!

I may have had a drink :D

Handy hint: don't turn wipers on when they are frozen solid.

^ This, I thought only females did this! My wife burnt out the rear wiper motor on her Civic doing this then tried to blame me for not telling her that she shouldn't turn the wiper on if the blade is stuck to the glass, DOH!

Your error is common.

First port of call.. check the fuse. 2nd port of call check the motor (:-(). Although don't rule out another fault like a dodgy switch....
