Any tips for stopping Garden furniture covers blowing away/ballooning?

We have a round set with 4 chairs. The chairs don't really fit under so needed a cover that would go over the lot.

We have one and when it's particularly windy it just balloons up and the other day dragged the furniture with it and would have toppled over had I not ran out and grabbed it. (Glass top, wouldn't have ended well!)

Gave up left it off. Just out it back on and tried weighing the top down with a bucket or 2 of water and it's just ballooned up and pulled one of the buckets off with it

Do you use covers? How are they supposed to fix down? This is probably a basic one, has eyelets all around the base and a cord though that doesn't seem to do anything really. Just holds it as one when it balloons up and decides to try and take flight!

Is it even worth it? Am I worrying over nothing? Only just got it and want it to last. Or do people tend to just cover during the winter?

Thanks in advance

I use a ratchet strap on mine. Every winter all the cushoms come off the furniture and then i cover it up pull it tigght and then strap the whole lot together. Ratchet straps are cheap as chips now days.

has never failed me yet.

That's a good idea!

Do you tend to just do that when it gets cold then, and then uncover after winter and leave off again until the next winter?

Just not sure what the norm is. It's only a sort of Rattan effect thing with a powder coated steel frame and chair legs.

Maybe I should just not over think it, uncover it now and recover it after the summer. Surely they can withstand wind and rain well enough?

We’ve got similar, got a large round cover from the Range that are tied round the chair legs and then I went all around the middle of the chairs with some linked bungees (fiver from Amazon) and it’s not moved all winter

yes it stays out all year once it is uncovered, if its particularly windy or a big storm is forecast then i will put all the cushions together and strap them down, stops them blowing all over the garden.
