well i gave the idea to my brother of putting a td06 compressor housing and wheel onto his td05 turbo for his scoob just as he was attacking it with a drill porting it out, just wondering if its a plug and play for the housing and wheel of does it involve a more "give it to the experts" sorta way to it its not like he is a muppet he knows his way around engines very well,.... but not turbo's

anyone with the know how would be great

thanx

It'd need rebuilding and rebalancing so certainly £££.

It's always best to match a turbo to it's application.

As penski says it would need balancing. The rebuild you can do with normal tools but turbos spin at 100,000+ rpm so they need balancing with great precision - I have seen quotes of as little as £25 for balancing a turbo but I don't know how accurate they are.

Def' a job for a Turbo specialist - Not forgetting it will change all the boost pressure etc... so it will need to be checked for fuelling etc... as well

send it to Andy Forrest, get him to work his magic on it.

just had my dads TD04 back from there (wants his car to be less laggy so is replacing the TD05) and it's now a hybrid. Should be good for 320bhp. The TD05 range he does goes from around 330bhp to 400odd bhp.

Have fun :D

I'm assuming that he is going with an 18G or 20G compressor wheel. Will certainly need balancing properly when reassembled, also I believe that Andy does some mods to the wastegate actuator mounting to help topend boost plus some wastegate porting. Will also need to be careful about the induction used as its possible to get full throttle surge if the 20G is used.

I can't believe somebody would go from TD05 to a TD04. Properly set up, the TD05 can give good spool characteristics.....my standard TD05-16G hits 1.4bar by 3100rpm for example and holds it to the redline.

It is properly setup mate. Mapped by Bob Rawle of all people too. He no longer needs/wants the extra power that the TD05 offers, and so has chose to downgrade, why is that so hard to believe? :)

cheers lads

just waiting on his gasket set and strech bolts now should be quite a beast when its put together seen as though he has attacket just about every hole on the engine with his drill hoping for around 350+ ponies

Power is regulated by the pedal on the right. If you no longer want or need that power, just don't press that pedal as hard ;) :D

well i destroyed a gearbox on it, and then he killed first gear... so you know, tone it down a bit now :D

I'm curious...why not get a strengthened box?

because a stronger gearbox in a scooby costs a whole lot more than down grading powerwise.
We've had our fun with that little bit of extra power, ran a 12.8 a few times which was more than fast enough, so maybe in the future when funds permit will the power be cranked back up and a stronger gearbox put in

Stronger boxes cost a lot of money, a smaller turbo can be had for peanuts as most people want to get rid for larger ones.
