Since creative released a new sound card quite a while ago and X-Mystique is planning of getting another one out what will M-Audio do about it?
Are there any news about a new release?

I'm just interested (not trying to be difficult) - what new feature are you looking for from a new card that's not already available? Obviously you'd go with Creative for gaming, but for everything else, I can't think of any dramatic new improvements that the current cards are lacking?

Its not a case of features lacking, its a case of more competition in the market.
M-Audio is one of the bigger players in the audio addin market, and their 'Revolution 7.1', while it didnt do anything especially new, was a well praised card because of its excellent outputs i belive.
So its a case of seeing what they can bring to the table compared with the other two companies. Creative have the gaming market sewn up, the new X-Plosion card covers movies. That leaves room for a good music card. Or prehaps a bit of all?

Creative = games
X-plosion = games + movies
M-Audio = music

That is the current view, if a little bit of a simplified one. At the end of the day any sound card from a big player will give excellent sound reproduction. They've all come a long way since Sound Blaster 16's.

After switching back from Creative to M-Audio i am not going back. I hope they release something ever better than the Revo 5.1 i already have.

The Revo 5.1 is a classic - sounds better than the 7.1 IMO.

Try hooking it up to a nice amp and speakers (or indeed hi-fi surround set-up) to get the full benefit.

The next thing M-Audio could do is to place the converters outside the card - although the 'noisy PC environment' problem is often overstated IMO.
Better converters would be good obviously - but this will raise the price, and the current set of converters M-Audio use are really rather good.

I guess I just find it hard to imagine what significant improvements can be made on the Revo 5.1, that's all. It even has a separate headphones output on the back - perfect for my requirements, down to the t.

The very lean and non-resource-hungry control panel also gets my vote - something that can't be said for the old Audigy drivers that I used to have for the Audigy 2 Plat.

PS. Revo 5.1 is reputed to have a better DAC for all 5.1 channels than the 7.1, which uses a good DAC for the front 2 channels, and uses an inferior DAC for the remaining 5.1 channels.

Ahhh - that explains why my ears preferred the 5.1!

I *love* the M-Audio drivers too!
That control panel is basic to look at, but so easy to use and so light on resources that it beats any other audio card control panel I've seen by a very wide margin.

The one for the Delta series is lighter again if anything :)
