My ram is slowly dying, and I think my CPU is a bit outdated, is there any part that can upgraded in this ageing machine? Or is it a new pc situation?

Ram - crucial ballistix but half of it is faulty.

Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail

Much appreciate any advice, if it's a new PC situation I'd appreciate some advice on whats popular at the moment for a mid range gaming pc.

not a lot wrong with that for a mid range gaming machine, what sort of games are you playing ?

i'd just consider getting ram for that setup unless the processor is holding you back gaming wise.

have you tried overclocking the 4400 ?

I have it running at 2.5 up from 2, on air. I recently put it back when blue screens started up but it turned out to be the ram.

Can you even get compatible ram from such old hardware now? :D Is DDR2 still around? hehe.

Just put an advert in the wanted section for 4GB DDR2 800MHz, they usually go for 35-40.

CPU wise I'd be looking for a Q6600/Q6700 maybe, usually sold for £65-80 these days, I'm not too sure how the 975X chipset is for overclocking quad cores, but I think Cat-The-Fifth had his at around 2.9GHz.
