I’m late to the party but I’ve just bought a PS5….Took the PS3 out the rack now what to do with it?

Seems a shame to land fill it?

Charity shop won’t take it…

I suppose I could keep it for Blu-rays but I don’t watch them anymore…

Any ideas?

Sell it easily. Although the fully backwards compatible models are more sought after it’s still worth some money, as it plays ps1 games with hdmi output. And the catalogue of ps3 titles is massive.

I just purchased a fully backwards compatible model as it seemed the best way to play ps1/2 titles on a modern screen.
Just reading up….mine is a 80GB phat with 2 x front USB ports….so won’t play ps2 games…I don’t think…

What would be the going rate?

I am subbed to PlayStation Premium + so have access to loads of past generation games…

I bought the PS3 mainly as a Blu-ray player for my home theatre…before streaming became a thing…

Update: It was a 40GB drive in it….I swapped this out for a 250GB SSD I had laying about…I mainly used the PS3 in my home theatre so rarely played games on it….Now I have my PS5 it’s sort of rekindled some interest in gaming….

What are some of the must have games for PS3 ?

Games that defined its power? :D

She’s had a clean and back in my rack with a new SSD fitted and a new Firmware installed. :)

Works fine with the SSD…Not sure on the SATA bus speeds but it’s about access times with SSD, less heat and noise and failure rate…

I put an SSD in my old Laptop circa 2007 for testing and playing with Linux and it was night and day from the 2.5 mechanical drive

1TB MX500 seems to be the sweet spot…anything bigger the PS3 doesn’t like.

Awesome, cheers.

i think that the drive was a 7200rpm so not slow slow, but still i cant help think an SSD is going to help in some way

Just need to check if you can get away with cloning PS drives or you have to do a full ground up.....

Just use backup utility within PS3
