Any users or people who work on ResNet? (university network)

I'm interested on peoples opinions on it, some really mixed reviews from people I know who have gone to university only to find out it's extremely limited yet others find it's almost completely open.

The one at loughborough was completely open in terms of outgoing connections, but they obviously ran NAT.

Do you mean JAnet? It's completely open. Each university will have its own firewall rules. Most will block UDP traffic entirely as well as all incoming TCP ports. Some will allow all outgoing ports of TCP but others will only allow a small handful.

Had ResNet when I was in the halls at Edinburgh, couldn't use P2P software without a proxy tunnel (which would cost money) or game online at all, and believe me I tried practically everything to get around it.

Depends what you use t'internet for, p0rn sites aren't blocked if that's your main concern!

Thinking of looking for a job managing it, bored working in a school now and it'd finally get me into university.. sort of.

I think it is JaNET essentially, oddly my school had just been added to it too :eek:
