Have got a file on a network share that is apparently locked by something and I need to overwrite it.

Anyone know of any utilities that can show me what exactly is causing the lock so I can remove it?

Would love to, but unfortunately I don't have access to the server.

I may have to resort to calling up desktop support and having them take 3 days to resolve the issue!

your network administrator should be able to tell you who has the file lock within 2 minutes...
Yeah, that's not how it works here. The joys of working for a large company.
We have to phone up a number, they enter our request into another application and then at some unspecified time in the future someone resolves it!

Well I managed to get round it in the end by creating a new folder without the offending file and then re-building that one!

We're not even allowed on the floor where all the servers are kept here, to be honest I don't even know whether this fileserver is in our building!

Things are very strict here, I work for a large bank and it's all very tightly controlled and regulated.
