Im looking to sell my B5.5 and get newer shape B6.

But dont know which way to go, 1.9TDI or 2.0TDI ?

I have heard that 1.9TDI is better than 2.0TDI any truth in that?
If going to get one, what are typical things to check on B6 models?

Cheers for any help! (Have an eye on 2006-2008 models).

The 1.9TDi is way better than the 2.0TDi. The 2.0TDi suffers from injector problems, oil pump problems as well as having a habit of drinking oil. The 1.9TDi is pretty slow as the B6 is a heavy car. Avoid any 1.9TDis with the BXE engine code as they seem to be pretty bad (I think they were mainly on golfs anyway). You'll struggle to find a nice spec on a 1.9TDi car as they were the cheaper model and very few were specced up. The 1.9TDI will be a lot better on fuel than the 2.0TDi as well although I think the 1.9TDi in the B6 is a 5 speed box which means its not as good on fuel as it should be at higher speeds.

If there isn't a lot wrong with your B5.5 it may be worth keeping that, especially if it is a 1.9TDi. The B5.5 is a pretty reliable car aside from the water ingress problems and parts arent all that expensive so I doubt it would cost you a lot to keep running it.

This, 100%

Is there any reason for your change other than you feel like a change?

As said above, the 2.0TDI is a lot less reliable than the 1.9
Better the devil you know, etc..

I had a "company car spec" eg a 1.9TDI SE B6 Passat.
Bit on the slow side, but "adequately" specced IMHO.

Comfy seats, lumbar, cruise, CD/MP3 etc.

There should also be plenty of later 1.9TDI Highlines about too which add leather, big alloys, steering wheel controls etc.

I should imaging that a remap should see 130-140bhp out of these which will make it much nicer all round drive.

I'd have another tomorrow (above my 12 plate A3 Black Edition).

I have a vw passat sport b6 2.0 tdi since 2009. The car has now 124k and i am still happy. I do 42 mpg combined. They advice in 2010 that my turbo is on the last let but is fine so far.
So far i had to change:
3 pairs of tires ( Dunlap, pirelli and now i have handkook ) £400 per each 4
break disk front + back + pads £180
injectors changed by vw under recall £free
rear hand break and caliper £480
cv axle £180
Egr valve £350
Steering wheel column immobilization ( only vw will change this ) £300
Wish bone £100
Battery £63
Recirculating pipes £340

I hope this help

No not really anything wrong with it, its 2001, has 137k miles on it, had over a year, just looking for something newer. But it does not look that its worth it atm so ill ride my old vw for a little longer. Is it just me or do "newer" cars last less and need more work on em?

Just that, on my old one last 15 -16 months only spent about £250 on it. Passed mot clean in november.
Done 17k+ miles with it, inc 3 trips to france/germany.

I do have a question, anyone knows why in boot right side slot is wet at bottom?...

Another common theme.

rear hand break and caliper £480

My money would be on a Mondeo if you can manage a petrol variant?
