Hi all

Just got back from Cyprus on Sunday and while I was there, I tried water skiing for the first time....brilliant fun, despite swallowing half of the Mediterranean!

Here's a vid of me on my third run (there's a wipeout eventually!). As you can see I bent my arms at the end and, being a noob, paid the price!

By the fourth attempt I was feeling fairly comfortable and starting to think about turning and form. Camera ran out of memory for my glorious homeward stretch :(. My wife did a good job filming on the boat. The Greek guy teaching me was hilarious, a total legend and despite not speaking English natively he got his points across very well.

Bashed my ribs a bit somehow but no aching in my arms or legs.

Now I am looking at doing it in the UK as I enjoyed it so much. I have some
questions:

- Any other water skiiers here? I'm based in the Midlands...what kind of places do you go to do it?

- How does the cable version compare to boating - just as good in your opinion? I've seen the cable skiing on YouTube but how does it compare in terms of learning to water ski?

- Do you have your own kit, where did you buy it, and is it expensive?

- I did the two ski version...is this considered easier or harder than the one ski version? Which version do you do and why? Is wakeboarding more or less fun, easier or harder?

I used to work opposite a cable skiing place so would go sometimes, I ended up using a monoski but I was never any good, I blame having double jointed knees and ankles. ;)

I guess the differences between a cable ski and a boat is that the start is easier from a cable as you are already in position, plus you have no wake to worry about. Good fun though.

PS. Nice combover :p

Hmm yes unfortunately I have not been blessed with the thickest of hair. When it's wet it makes me look like Bobby Charlton :(.

With a cable what happens if you fall off half way round? Is it time to swim or can you grab on at other 'points in the lap'?

If you fall off somewhere a reasonable distance away they had a lad in a small boat with an outboard that would come and get you. The hardest bit at first is the corners, you have to come out wide or the line goes slack before ripping your arms off. ;)
