any way of trimming down itunes?

If it's only for copying music to the device there are a ton of third party replacements that allow drag and drop - however you'll still need itunes for the firmware updates.

A weird thing I did (for the iPod) was make a VM and passed the phone through to the VM - installed iTunes there. A rather clunky way of doing it, I agree, but it kept my system Apple free.

Have a read of this: I read it recently and describes in detail how to slim down the installer so that you can just install the bits that you want:

Just done this on my fresh install, much less bloat and fail installed on my PC now :)

I installed:

AppleApplicationSupport.msi /passive
iTunes64.msi /passive
AppleMobileDeviceSUpport64.msi /passive

then just installed QT Lite seperatly, everything's working great and bloat free :)

When I do a fresh install of Windows 7 in a few days, I will follow that tutorial. I don;t have an iPhone yet but aiming to get one as the benefits to me will be huge and I have recently organised all my music manually and am not letting iTunes do it whatsoever and my library is soooooo much neater now.
