having taken my G27 home and raced with it for a while the parents are complaining about how loud the gearstick is. its not just because i'm trying to do quick gear changes, the gearstick is just really loud. obviously i could just use the flappy paddles, but i'd like to know if anyone has any quietening solutions for the gearstick?

sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, but i figured this is where most of the G27 owners would be

You must be using the wheel with FFB turned off if the gear stick is all they're complaining about. Hitting kerbs, crashing etc in games like F1 2011, pCARS and especially rFactor rocks my house to its foundations and makes a hell of a racket in the process.

Is it just the noise of the stick itself hitting the rims of the unit itself?

If so you could always line it with foam/felt etc though it would require some ghetto modding.

I have taken my G25 shifter apart, basically what is making the noise is a little metal ball bearing moving from slot to slot. This can be changed out for plastic, but it's a bit of a nightmare job. I took it apart to add an extra spring to make it a little more solid when changing gear.

sounds like your house has a major problem, because i dont have any problems like that

yep, thats what causes it. no matter how hard i try to shift gear quietly i always get over enthusiastic with my gear changes and it makes a hell of a loud noise.

on another forum it was suggested using the loop side of some velcro, but i'll see what else is available

with my skills in DIY i think i'll leave this suggestion for more mechanically minded people

No such problems with my Thrustmaster F430, quiet paddle shifts baby.

I'm guessing the G27 is worth it though for other reasons.
