Going away this weekend and staying in a caravan in a trailer park with a decent TV but a crap internet connection, so we won't be able to use Netflix, Prime, Now, etc for entertainment.

I know you can download stuff from Netflix on your phone now, so I was wondering if there's a way to play stuff from a phone on a TV? I do have a Chromecast dongle I can bring, but the internet connection is a shared one for the whole park. If I can set up the Chromecast will I be able to play stuff I've downloaded onto my phone?

Set up your phone and dongle on your router before you go and take that with you. Shouldn't need the Internet to bounce the signal.

You don't mention what type of phone you have. You could try tethering to create a wifi network from your phone and the Chromecast can connect to that, then cast your downloaded stuff from your phone.

I tried the Microsoft wireless display thingy but it was a bit jittery, although that was downloading to and casting from my phone at the same time (youtube).

Or totally forget a wireless connection and get a HDMI cable for your phone.

The phone is an S7 edge. I've just got here and I can't get Chromecast set up. It can't seem to connect to the shared Wifi properly.

I tried setting up a mobile hotspot on my girlfriend's phone and connecting via that but it didn't work.

Just get micro USB to HDMI and you are fine dont play about with wifi or other stuff no need. Load movies on to your phone and enjoy.

Really sorry I was mistaken you will have to play with wifi.

"Unfortunately Samsung have dropped all MHL support with the Galaxy S6 last year, and this capability hasn't yet returned to the Galaxy line."
